Following The Life of a Showgirl and the announcement of her upcoming Disney+ docuseries The End of an Era (premiering December 12), Taylor Swift is giving fans something she seldom does: a peek inside her beauty routine. In an Instagram post teasing the trailer for the upcoming six-part series, Swift is seen unwinding in her hotel room after a three-hour performance—peeling off her lashes, wiping away her makeup, and finally drawing a well-earned bath.

“I’ll not be able to get to sleep because I can’t, like, come down,” she says. “So, I just watch tons of TV, I eat room service in bed, I sign a box of 2,000 CDs—and then, and then, I’m tired. And then we do the whole thing again.” This behind-the-scenes look offers a rare glimpse into the rituals that helped her recharge after the record-breaking Eras Tour.

Ahead, a closer look at every product Swift used to wash off all that Eras Tour glitter—and maybe to kick a little of the adrenaline, too. Naturally, her idea of a “quick soak” involves quite a bit of luxury, but honestly, you don’t need a world tour to justify stealing a page from her self-care playbook.

When it comes to facial cleansers, Swift seems to treat herself to one of the most luxe cleanser-and-scrub combos one could possibly use. Among the products perched on her tub are Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Super Anti-Aging Cleansing Cream, a rich, hydrating formula packed with shea butter and hyaluronic acid to soothe skin that’s been through the wringer, and Tata Harper’s Regenerating Cleanser, which combines chemical exfoliants like fruit enzymes and physical exfoliants like apricot seed powder to leave skin smooth and glowy. Even if your “performance” is just making it through a never-ending workday, this duo makes clocking out feel way more indulgent.

For hair care, Swift keeps things just as luxurious with Christophe Robin’s Delicate Volumising Shampoo and Conditioner with Rose Extracts—a fitting choice for someone whose hair undergoes daily styling and sweating. Both rose-infused formulas are lightweight yet nourishing, adding shine without flattening her signature waves. The shampoo gently cleanses while protecting color, and the conditioner smooths and softens, which explains how her hair still looks fresh no matter how many styling sessions (or encores) she powers through.

Swift’s body-care lineup includes Ouai’s St. Barts Body Cleanser, an Allure editor favorite. The formula’s packed with skin-loving ingredients like glycerin, jojoba seed oil, rosehip oil, and sodium hyaluronate to bring back hydration after scrubbing away layers of shimmer and stage makeup, while probiotics help keep the skin barrier happy. It works up into a creamy lather that melts off grime without leaving skin tight or dry. The signature St. Barts scent—a warm, tropical blend of dragon fruit, orange blossom, and musk—basically makes every post-show bath feel like a beach break.

Judging by the color and design, we have a hunch that Swift’s razor of choice might be from Gillette’s Venus line, though we can’t officially confirm (yet). Our eagle-eyed Allure editors will be keeping close watch for any other noteworthy beauty discoveries from Swift—and you can bet we’ll report back.

If you've been thinking about cutting your hair super short because “it's just hair—it'll grow back,” do not think for one second that the process of returning to longer hair is as smooth as Emma Stone has made it look. After shaving her head for her new film, Bugonia, the Oscar winner has brought us along on a journey from a perfect pixie to a beautiful bixie to, now, an enviable bob—one she has already worn in several stunning ways. And while, yes, growing out your hair can go as hoped without the help of a hairstylist behind each of your public appearances, Stone's stylist, Mara Roszak, has revealed to Allure just how much attention to detail goes into a look like the actor's latest sculpted look—and how you can recreate it.

Stone attended the Bugonia Headline Gala at the BFI London Film Festival looking flawless (as per usual), wearing a floor-length, marigold yellow Louis Vuitton gown (styled by Petra Flannery), the warmth of which was reflected in the most ideal fall shade of blurred brownish-red on her lips (applied by makeup artist Nina Park). Manicurist Imarni kept that chocolatey burgundy going on her nails, which we got a peek at every time she carefully swept her hair away from her face.

And you'd be careful too if you knew how much skill and how many steps went into sculpting this bob masterpiece.

Emma Stone posing in a strappy yellow dressPhoto: Getty Images

“Emma has a lot of hair, but it's fine, so l don't ever use products that weigh it down,” Roszak tells Allure. She prepped Stone's hair with a combination of her own Rōz Santa Lucia Styling Oil and Milk Hair Serum and gave her a smooth, side-parted blowout with a very small rounded brush, giving it some volume and rounding the ends under.

“I then took a one-and-a-quarter-inch barrel iron and curled everything towards the face in vertical sections,” Roszak explains. (We're fans of the T3 Curl ID curling iron.) Before brushing out the waves, she spread the Best of Beauty Award-winning Rōz Evergreen Style Cream along the newly curled sections and then used a Mason Pearson brush to very gently smooth and shape. She even used a rat tail comb—the Best of Beauty Award-winning Cécred Parting Tail Comb is perfect for this—to help sculpt that very front section. “That's the section that can be the most challenging and most particular. You really want to get that shape right around the face.”

She finished with some hairspray before the finishing touch: “I tucked the one side behind the ear,” Roszak tells Allure. “I always love a one-side tuck when you get to show an earring. It's beautiful for a red carpet. It opens up the face in a really beautiful way.”

Emma Stone posing in a strappy yellow dressPhoto: Getty Images

Roszak says this is one of her favorite styles she's done on Emma Stone, and we have to agree. And while you may not be able to snag an appointment with Roszak, at least now you know exactly what you need to do to make this bob happen for yourself.

Whether you grew up wanting Jennifer Aniston’s poofy layers on Friends, or are experiencing one of the greatest eras in pop culture for the first time through rewatches, one thing is certain: ‘90s hairstyles just hit differently. It doesn’t get more full-of-personality than Halle’s pixie, Pamela’s bed-head updo, or just about every look Mel B. had during the Spice Girls’ peak.

I had 2C hair (bouncy strands that were somewhere between waves and curls) in the ‘90s, and when I brought magazine clippings of Heather Locklear’s shoulder-length layers to my mom’s hairstylist, she told me “no,” unless I’d chemically straighten my hair. As a kid, I couldn’t be told no, so I went through with it—and was it a mistake.

Unhappy with how the treatment changed my strands, I let the layers grow out and started looking for someone with texture like mine. I became fixated on Karyn Parsons—who played Hilary Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air—and how she wore the hell out of her curly bob.

Hilary Banks and Ashley Banks on The Fresh Prince of BelAirGetty Images, NBCU Photo Bank

Sure, Banks’ hair was springier than mine (in season one, she had loose, 3A hair), but I wanted to have a bob (and clothes and sass) like hers. So I picked up a pair of kitchen scissors and got to cutting. When I went to my salon to get it fixed two weeks later, I was sent home with a CHI flat iron, a promise not to cut my own hair again, and, most importantly, the look I always wanted.

To style it, I picked up the diffuser-and-hairspray method from curly queens Jordan and Candace on Sorority Life. I’m grateful to have learned their ways, but I’m thrilled that hair-care formulas and technology have come a long way since then. “The products and tools we have now make the ‘90s styles more straightforward to achieve, healthier for the hair, and more versatile,” says hairstylist Annagjid “Kee” Taylor. “We’re not just recreating the past. We’re updating it with better techniques, more inclusivity, and a whole lot more creativity.”

Banks continues to inspire me to this day. (It always feels like a full-circle moment every time I have the chance to do a beauty segment on the very same studio lot where The Fresh Prince was filmed.) And though my curls have loosened, I still look back on that era fondly. Searching for your own ‘90s hair muse? Scroll for a breakdown of some of the most memorable ‘90s cuts and styles that are just as cool today.

    The Rachel

If you forced me to pick just one haircut that defined the decade, it would definitely be The Rachel. It’s the cut that launched thousands of salon appointments. “It was engineered to look ‘casual,’ but it’s a masterpiece of shaping and is layered in a way that gives natural movement and volume,” says Kasper Heemskerk, hairstylist and Balmain Hair education director.

As someone who always aspired to rock The Rachel, I just had to ask the stylist who created the iconic look about its impact. “I feel like that vibe is creeping back, just in a more modern way,” says hairstylist Chris McMillan, Aniston’s longtime hairstylist. He’s right, as it’s one of this season’s biggest hair trends. New York City-based hairstylist Vanessa Ocando previously told us that 2025’s take on The Rachel is less manipulated by hairspray and hot tools. “With layering and added texture, the cut has beautiful movement and an effortless, face-framing flow,” she says.

    Karyn Parsons' Flippy Lob

hilary banks bob karyn parsons 90s hair inspirationGetty Imageshilary banks lob haircut 90s haircutGetty Images

Not unlike Miss Hilary Banks herself, this style is equal parts polished and playful. “This cut frames the face beautifully and has that unmistakable ‘rich auntie’ energy that’s so current right now,” says Heemskerk. “When styling the cut at home, use a round brush and blow dryer to smooth the hair while directing the ends outward.”

A veil of hairspray, especially at the ends, will help to lock in that flipped effect, though Richard Mannah, hairstylist and Joico senior global artistic director recommends letting your hair set in velcro rollers after you’ve blown it out. “This will allow the style to last much longer,” he says.

    Halle Berry's pixie

halle berry pixie haircut 90s hair inspirationGetty Imageshalle berry pixie haircut 90s hair inspirationGetty Images

“Halle’s pixie was cool, edgy, soft, and sculptural,” Heemskerk says. “It’s perfect for showing off your facial features and a strong bone structure.” In terms of length, the pro recommends keeping your crop closer at the sides and a bit longer at the crown, as you would a classic pixie, but really playing up the texture of those longer layers to mimic Halle’s sculptural vibe.

While short styles like Halle’s can be a wash-and-go option, Heemskerk recommends using a styling gel to define your natural texture, as well as a pea-sized amount of argan oil for shine. “Short styles need just as much care,” he adds.

    Cindy Crawford Blowout

cindy crawford 90s supermodel hairGetty Imagescindy crawford 90s supermodel hairGetty Images

Second to The Rachel, Cindy Crawford’s bouncy, volume-packed blowout from her 1992 Pepsi commercial is a definitive hairstyle of the ‘90s, with long, soft layers hitting just below the shoulder, and loose curls framing the face. “It’s the epitome of effortless glam—big, bouncy, healthy-looking hair that moves,” says Mannah.

To lock in that salon-perfect volume at home, hairstylist Sunnie Brook recommends prepping damp hair with a mousse, like Leonor Greyl Mousse Au Lotus Volumatrice, applied root to mid-lengths. “Rough dry with your hair upside down—this will save your arms—then use your fingers to lift the roots while your hair is flipped over,” she says. To get the look to last two to three days, she suggests using hot rollers, applying a dry shampoo, and wearing a silk sleep cap.

    Drew Barrymore Bob

drew barrymore bob haircut 90s hair inspirationGetty Imagesdrew barrymore bob haircut 90s hair inspirationGetty Images

“This look is straight out of a Delia’s catalog,” says hairstylist Marie Nino. “It has that ‘I didn’t try, but I still look amazing’ vibe,” Air-drying or diffusing your hair is key here, as you really want to let your natural texture shine. Nino recommends using the Innersense I Create Lift Volumizing Mousse on damp hair to help bring out your natural texture. Once you’ve finished your preferred drying method, spritz on the IGK Beach Club Texture Spray to achieve a lived-in, piecey finish.

    Tyra Banks's bangs

tyra banks bangs 90s hair inspiration versaceGetty Images

Baby bangs like Tyra’s certainly aren’t for the weak, but if you’re up to take a risk, it’s one that pays off. “Whether blunt or choppy, baby bangs sit just above your eyebrows and make a bold statement,” says Amy Abramite, hairstylist and creative director at Chicago’s Maxine Salon. “They can be added to any haircut for an immediate alt-girl or fashionista transformation.”

The baby bangs Janeane Garofalo wore in Reality Bites made just as bold of a statement as Tyra’s fringe. To achieve the soft, piecey texture, Abramite recommends applying a paste like Oribe’s Rough Luxury formula directly to your bangs using your fingers. “Try pinching sections together to give a light hold and separation,” she says.

    Linda Evangelista’s Short Crop

“Linda’s ultra-short chop was bold and fashion-forward,” says Mannah. It was versatile, too. Whether it was paired with an eyebrow-grazing fringe or a deep side part, the style can look so chic and timeless. (See: Leslie Bibb's take on the look.) “How can you not feel confident when you’re rocking that cut?” McMillan says. “It just makes you feel powerful.”

    Winona Ryder’s Bixie

Winona Ryders Bixie haircut 90s hair inspirationGetty ImagesWinona Ryders Bixie 90s hair inspirationGetty Images

While the “bixie” moniker is a modern development, Winona’s bob-pixie hybrid is a style that will forever be etched into our memory for being both trendy and versatile. “The texture, attention to the fringe, and sideburns were epic,” says Jeannetta Walker Rodgers, hairstylist and Joico Global Technical Director. “You could rock it out, detail it, or slick it.”

To achieve that cool girl volume, Rodgers recommends flipping your head upside down to rough-dry your hair. After it’s about 50% dry, flip your hair upward and use your fingers to twist your strands in different directions.

    Nia Long’s Wispy Bangs

nia long side swept bangs 90s hair inspirationGetty Images

If you’re asking the eternal question of whether or not to get bangs, but aren’t feeling the commitment to the above-the-brow baby bangs, let Nia Long’s wispy fringe inspire you. Soft and airy, they complement both long layers and pixie cuts equally well. “They’re an easy way to switch things up without a full-blown haircut,” Nino says. “Blow-dry them with a small round brush, or let them air-dry and use your fingers to style them.” A small amount of styling wax or cream (like Biotop’s 911 Hydration Boost) can help keep your bangs in place without creating a greasy finish.

    Courtney Love’s Choppy Shag

Courtney Loves Choppy Shag 90s hair inspirationGetty ImagesCourtney Loves Choppy Shag 90s hair inspirationGetty Images

“A choppy shag feels very ‘90s grunge rock,” says Rita Hazan, hairstylist, colorist, and founder of Rita Hazan Salon in New York City. “It has an intentionally undone vibe and looks great when you have some waves or textured hair.” Hazan recommends asking your hairstylist for uneven layers and maximizing that roughed-up finish by using texturizing products and mousse.

While the cut is most historically accurate when paired with blonde hair and dark roots, it looks great with all hair colors, especially hues not typically found in nature. We recommend Good Dye Young’s vivid dyes. You can also choose to re-live the ‘90s by heading to your mall’s Hot Topic and perusing the Manic Panic shelves.

    JLo’s Lob

JLos Lob haircut 90s hair inspirationGetty Images

A collarbone-skimming lob like Jennifer Lopez’s flatters all hair textures. “Long, softened layers paired with a bob are great for adding volume and giving your hair a fuller feel,” says Hazan. “Especially with warm highlights, it can give the hair a lot of movement and dimension.”

    ‘90s Hairstyles

    Brandy’s Micro Braids

brandy microbraids 90s hair inspirationGetty Images

Micro braids like Brandy’s are stunning at any length. While you’ll want to visit a pro for the install, Kim Kimble, hairstylist and founder of Kim Kimble Hair, recommends using a moisturizing braid spray to maintain the protective style at home, avoiding heavy products to prevent buildup, and sleeping in a satin scarf at night.

Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino’s Sleek Updos

ROMY AND MICHELE'S HIGH SCHOOL REUNION Lisa Kudrow Mira Sorvino 1997 90s hair inspirationEverett Collection

The scene: halfway from Los Angeles to their high school reunion in Tucson, Romy and Michele emerge from a diner bathroom, clad in pinstriped power skirt sets and the sleekest updos you’ve ever seen. Romy approaches the waitress at the counter and asks, “Do you have some sort of business woman's special?”

Part “we invented Post-its” realness, part campy ‘90s prom hair, the structural updo is a statement held together with styling gel and bobby pins. “This updo is power hair,” says Hawkins. “It doesn’t move, and it’s not supposed to. You want structure here.”

Hawkins recommends starting with a generous amount of styling wax or gel to slick everything back, then twist your lengths into a bun or French twist. Use a brush to secure any errant flyaways before anchoring your style into place. “You want it to look like it could survive an earthquake,” he adds. “Bonus points if there’s a comb accessory involved.”

    Britney Spears’s Zig Zag Part

britney spears zig zag part and bob haircut 90s hair inspirationGetty Images

Any millennial worth their original copy of the Baby, One More Time CD can tell you that a zig-zag part like Britney Spears’s is the easiest way to bring some ‘90s flair into any look. “It’s a subtle detail, but it changes the whole vibe,” says hairstylist George Papanikolas. “The look is unexpected, fun, and looks amazing in selfies.” To achieve the look, Papnikolas recommends starting with damp hair, then using a tail comb to draw the zig-zag part into place.

    Alicia Keys’s Cornrows

Alicia Keyss Cornrows 90s hair inspirationGetty ImagesAlicia Keyss Cornrows 90s hair inspirationGetty Images

Like her velvety vocals, Alicia Keys’s cornrows hit all the right notes and have serious range. “Cornrows or chunky flat twists are protective, versatile, and full of attitude,” says Taylor. “They frame the face in such a bold way, and you can dress them up with accessories or keep them clean for a sleek, timeless look.”

If you’re braiding your hair on your own, Taylor recommends beginning with damp strands and using the Chéribé Hair Milk to keep your curls soft and pliable as you part and braid. “You can pin the lengths into a bun, pony, or creative updo,” she says. “Add beads or metallic cuffs for that throwback flavor.”

    Foxy Brown’s Baby Hairs

foxy brown with baby hairsGetty Images

“Baby hairs laid to perfection were such a signature in the '90s, and it’s timeless when done right,” Taylor says. “I love how they let you add personality to any style—soft and swoopy for a romantic vibe, or sharp and structured for drama.”

Follow in Foxy Brown’s lead by picking up a soft brush or edge tool, and a hair gel. Taylor recommends the Shea Moisture Define & Shine Edge Gel to sculpt your baby hairs into your desired shape. “Go subtle or go with a statement, it’s all about your personal vibe,” she adds.

    Pamela Anderson’s Updo

pamela anderson curly updo 90s hair inspirationGetty Images

With its romantic, soft curls and face-framing wisps, Pamela Anderson’s updo is as notable to us as her famed Baywatch one-piece. “It’s sexy but undone, like effortless glam,” says Joseph Maine, hairstylist and founder of Trademark Beauty. It’s a great way to give your strands new life between wash days, especially since texture is very much needed to pull it off. (Dry shampoo is your friend here!)

Maine recommends starting by separating your hair into two ponytails. “Section one will run from the ears to the crown, and section two will be the hair at the nape of your neck,” he says. “Push the messy texture into a big bun shape, no twisting, and secure with pins, then leave a few pieces out around the face.”

Dua Lipa is looking to the animal kingdom for nail inspo—and reviving a mid-2010s mani trend in the process. These days, tortoiseshell-print hair accessories are everywhere—call it the Carolyn Bessette Kennedy effect—but the tortoiseshell manicure has been fairly dormant since its 2010s heyday, when it was one of the reigning nail art trends. Until now! The Radical Optimism pop star just brought tortoiseshell nails back and proves the reptile-inspired manicure as timeless and versatile as ever.

Lipa's nails were the work of manicurist Kim Truong, who filed the pop star's nails into medium-length oval shape, then created a tortoiseshell effect across Lipa's entire nail. She started with a light caramel base, then applied a darker brown color in a series of small blobs in various sizes to replicate the signature shell pattern.

Dua Lipa wears a brown tortoiseshell manicure.Kim Truong

Lipa must've loved the mani, because she wore it for a few different occasions. If you swipe through Truong's Instagram carousel, you'll see the tortoiseshell nails paired with jeans and a satiny navy jacket and a metallic silver minidress. They even popped up onstage during Lipa's tour stop at the Forum in Los Angeles. Like one of those CBK-approved tortoiseshell headbands, the manicure is sophisticated and stylish but still a little whimsical, and though it's a bolder design than a simple French manicure, it goes with pretty much every outfit.

If you like a textural nail moment, look no further than Lipa's recent mani oeuvre. In late July, she dipped her tips in 3D gold beads for a glimmering spin on the French manicure. Then, she rang in her 30th birthday with a “molten bubble orb” manicure and returned to the tour stage with cool mid-century modern-inspired windowpane nail art. The musician never wears the same manicure twice, and we love her for it!

If the eyes are the window to the soul, our undereyes are an indication of last night's 12-hour Friends rerun marathon. That's when the best eye serum comes in handy. We've all woken up to less-than-stellar-looking undereyes—whether it be self-induced puffiness caused by pulling an all-nighter or dark circles thanks to genetics—but there are innovative skin-care formulas that can help us disguise the look and severity of tired-looking, dehydrated undereyes.

While eye creams are always a good idea for refreshing and hydrating the undereyes in your skin-care routine, the best eye serums offer a more targeted approach to getting to the root of whatever concern you're battling. Similar to face serums, eye serums are thin, quick-absorbing solutions designed to provide targeted treatment with potent ingredients, says Reshmi Kapoor, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in Brooklyn, New York. These formulas address a range of concerns, including dark circles, puffiness, fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven texture.

    Our Top Picks

    • Best Overall Eye Serum: Dr. Dennis Gross Advanced Retinol + Ferulic Triple Correction Eye Serum, $71
    • Best for Dark Circles: Skinceuticals AOX+ Eye Gel, $110
    • Best With Retinol: Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum, $16
    • Best for Crow’s Feet: La Roche-Posay Hyalu B5 Eye Serum, $45
    • Best for Dull Skin: Mario Badescu Brightening Eye Serum, $24
    • Best for Uneven Tone: Biossance 5% Niacinamide Brightening Eye Serum, $44
    • Best Drugstore: Cetaphil Healthy Renew Eye Gel Serum, $22

Also worth noting: Eye serums have a higher concentration of active ingredients and fewer moisturizing and lubricating ingredients, making them lighter in consistency and more absorbent compared to creams. If you prefer more fluid formulas, consider swapping your eye cream for one of the best eye serums. Or if you have a specific concern around the eyes and "desire a more intensive treatment in this area," as Dusan Sajic, MD, an Ontario-based board-certified dermatologist, puts it, an eye serum will serve you well.

With that in mind, scroll ahead for dermatologist-approved and editor-loved picks for the best eye serum for every skin type and concern.

Why it's worth it: Few formulas can rival the Dr. Dennis Gross Advanced Retinol + Ferulic Triple Correction Eye Serum when it comes to smoothing, brightening, and firming the undereye area. “This eye serum is one of my favorites because it contains acetyl hexapeptide-8, which helps reduce the appearance of fine lines by gently relaxing micro-muscles in the skin, alongside antioxidants and retinol derivatives that support collagen production and cell turnover,” says Dara Spearman, MD, board-certified dermatologist based in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She adds that it’s especially effective for “early wrinkles, undereye crepiness, or dullness,” and can even help minimize puffiness and dark circles. As with all eye serums, regular application is key to improving the overall texture and firmness of the undereye area, but the results are well worth the wait.

Why it's worth it: If dark circles are your main undereye struggle, the SkinCeuticals AOX+ Eye Gel is a game changer—it brightens and revives even the most exhausted eyes (just ask our tester, a pregnant mom who swears by it). “The mix of vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid), ferulic acid, and phloretin can help brighten dark areas, while the caffeine can help to reduce puffiness,” says Peter Bittar, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in Miami. Together, these antioxidants and energizing actives target discoloration and fatigue while protecting against free-radical damage. “Plus, its smooth, serum-in-a-gel texture makes it easy to apply across the entire eye area and absorbs quickly,” he adds, leaving your eyes looking refreshed and well-rested.

It sinks in really quickly to tackle areas where I wouldn't typically put my antioxidant serum, and makes for a killer daytime eye treatment. Even though I'm pregnant and have a toddler on hand, I feel like I look a little more alive in the mornings, with fewer dark circles and less puffiness to prove it." —Deanna Pai, contributing commerce editor

Why it's worth it: With 2% retinal liposome—also known as retinaldehyde, the most potent form of vitamin A available over the counter—the Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum is ideal for those looking to fight crepiness and wrinkles on the delicate skin underneath the eyes, which Dr. Sajic says is inherently thinner than the skin on the face and therefore more likely to show damage sooner. This TikTok-viral (and affordable!) formula also features 10% ginseng root extract, a traditional Korean ingredient that helps boost hydration and elasticity. Unlike typical eye serums, this formula has a balm-like consistency to trap moisture and still boasts a lightweight, barely-there feel.

“I think eye creams are a ‘nice-to-have’ skin-care step—and if I reach for an eye cream at all, it'll be a retinol eye cream to reap retinol's fine-line-minimizing and tightening benefits. Again, I'm 31 and haven't experienced fine lines around the eyes or generally sagging undereyes, but skin care is—with a lot of emphasis—all about consistent use and prevention. This eye serum has a lightweight, custardy-gel texture that absorbs almost immediately and makes my undereyes look a tad brighter and less puffy the next morning.” —Sarah Han, commerce editor

Why it's worth it: When brands go the extra mile to make skin care feel easier and smarter, we notice. La Roche-Posay’s Hyalu B5 Anti-Wrinkle Replumping Eye Serum is one of those thoughtful innovations, complete with a built-in metal roller that cools and refreshes tired eyes on contact. Inside, “a combination of hyaluronic acid and panthenol (vitamin B5) plumps up dry, crepey skin around the eyes, while caffeine and niacinamide help reduce puffiness and brighten skin tone,” says Dr. Bittar.. It’s gentle, fragrance-free, and feels far pricier than it actually is.

The formula itself is more serum than cream (it’s literally in the name) and easily seeps into undereye crevices to plump with hyaluronic acid and lock in moisture with glycerin. Why it's worth it: If the ingredient lineup—caffeine, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid—looks familiar, that’s intentional. “A great undereye serum that contains both niacinamide and caffeine—those powerhouse ingredients that, when used together, give that bright and tight effect quickly and effectively,” says Anna Chacon, MD, a board-certified dermatologist, based in Miami. But the Mario Badescu Brightening Eye Serum takes those staples a step further: Its thoughtful blend of arnica and Centella asiatica helps calm puffiness and soothe delicate skin, while collagen-boosting peptides work to firm and smooth over time. These gentler actives deliver similar firming and smoothing benefits without the irritation or adjustment period that retinol can bring. Frequently Asked Questions

Which eye serums helps with undereye circles?

Eye serums that target undereye darkness often rely on brightening ingredients to lighten shadows and even skin tone. “Look for ingredients like vitamin C and niacinamide (or vitamin B3), which are great options for a quick, light, brightening effect, while stronger ones like retinoids or retinol will have better, compounding, longer-lasting effects over time,” says Dr. Chacon. For best results, Dr. Chacon recommends using them in tandem: think vitamin C or niacinamide in the morning and retinol at night.

What type of eye serum will have an eye-tightening effect?

Eye serums with a tightening effect can work in both the short- and long-term, depending on your needs. “Immediate results that are great in a pinch for a surprise event or special occasion would be something with caffeine that quickly restricts and shrinks blood vessels, giving a tighter, more awake look,” says Dr. Chacon. For a longer-term solution, she adds, look for formulas with hyaluronic acid, which helps the skin retain deep moisture and appear plumper and firmer over time.

What’s the difference between an eye serum and eye cream?

Someone might choose an eye serum over an eye cream because serums are typically lighter, faster-absorbing, and easier to layer under makeup. “Serums are generally lighter and a little more ‘slippery,’ allowing for quick and easy application and making them a great daytime option,” says Dr. Chacon. Eye creams, on the other hand, tend to be thicker and more emollient, which makes them ideal for nighttime use. “I prefer the thicker cream options for night routines due to their more moisturizing attributes,” she adds, noting that the heavier texture can sometimes make makeup application or adhesion more difficult.

How we test and review products

When Allure tests a product, our editors look at it from every angle in an effort to best serve you. We review ingredients, scrutinize brand claims, and, when necessary, examine peer-reviewed scientific and medical studies. In addition to testing each and every product that’s included in each and every review, we rely on experts who shape their fields, including dermatology, cosmetic chemistry, and medicine, to help us vet the ingredients and formulas.

For our list of the best eye serums, we considered each product’s performance across five primary categories: product ingredients and efficacy, packaging, fragrance, texture, and product wear. Every product was determined to have excelled in each category by our editorial team, which is composed of in-house writers and editors as well as contributors—along with special consideration from dermatologists. To learn more information on our reporting and testing processes, read our complete reviews process and methodology page.

    Our staff and testers

A beauty product is a personal purchase. You might be searching for a face cream to address persistent dryness or a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine; you may simply be browsing around for the latest launches to hit the hair market. No matter what you seek or your individual needs and concerns, Allure wants to ensure that you love anything we recommend in our stories. We believe that having a diverse team of writers and editors—in addition to the wide range of outside testers and industry experts we regularly call upon—is essential to reaching that goal.

After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the "best" for people over 50 if the only testers we’ve solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it’s never been tested on curls? We’re proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.

And after using Nulastin LASH Follicle Fortifying Serum—formulated with powerful peptides, hydrating glycerin, and strengthening keratin—twice a day for at least six weeks, you’ll notice longer, more lush-looking lashes, no mascara required.

Just like your favorite sunscreen, the best heat-protectant sprays are essential for preventing damage. You wouldn't sit under the hot sun without wearing UV protection, right? Similarly, you should also avoid putting a 400-degree hot tool on your hair without first using a heat protectant. These essential hair-care products create a moisturizing barrier between your hair and the heat, which helps prevent breakage, frizz, and split ends.

Whether you're blow-drying, straightening, or curling your hair, the extreme temperatures, often reaching up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit, can literally cook your hair's protein structure, leaving it weakened and prone to snapping. What makes this particularly frustrating is that heat damage is cumulative, meaning each styling session without proper protection adds up over time, gradually compromising your hair's health and appearance. The good news is that incorporating a quality heat protectant into your routine is one of the simplest yet most effective ways to maintain strong, shiny hair, while still achieving your desired styles.

Why we love it: Whether you're diffusing, flatironing, or silk-pressing, you need a hair shield that protects your strands from damage. Enter the K18 HeatBounce Conditioning Heat Protectant, a lightweight leave-in that not only blocks heat damage up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit but also softens, detangles, and quenches thirsty ends in the process. The magic lies in its patented Resilicore technology, a blend of peptides, proteins, and conditioning agents that mimics resilin, a natural protein capable of withstanding extreme stress. This technology penetrates past the cuticle and into the cortex, where heat stress really does its damage. Unlike many protectants that can leave a tacky film or weigh hair down, this one sprays on weightlessly and disappears into strands. The formula is safe for all textures and even extensions, making it a universal staple.

“Once upon a time, I used to completely air-dry my hair…and wake up with frizz for days. Listen, I didn't know any better. (In fact, you shouldn't go to bed with wet hair at all.). In the years since, I've upgraded my (albeit, still-not-so-too-sophisticated) post-shower routine to the following: generously spritzing heat protectant all over, rough-drying my hair to ~60% with my trust Dyson Supersonic, slathering on a hair serum or leave-in of choice on my mid-lengths down to my ends, and letting my microfiber towel soak up the remaining moisture as I watch some TV. After I rough-dry with K18 HeatBounce (which absorbs immediately—key for my impatient self), my hair still feels soft and hydrated, and my brush glides through without any issues. With my colored hair, I'm concerned with fading, and I think HeatBounce—along with the rest of my lineup—has helped prevent just that." —Sarah Han, commerce editor

Hydrolyzed wheat protein fortifies the hair fiber to help reduce breakage before it starts, while chamomile extracts condition and calm the scalp. Aloe vera adds hydration to keep hair flexible and resilient, making it less prone to damage from combing or hot tools. Sprayed liberally on towel-dried hair, it instantly softens and smooths, allowing combs to glide through with less resistance. Why we love it: Curls and heat tools don’t usually play well together—that’s unless Design Essentials’ Agave & Lavender Blow-Dry & Heat Shield is in the mix. It’s engineered to cut drying time in half while protecting strands from heat up to 420 degrees Fahrenheit. Infused with agave extract to condition and strengthen, lavender oil to nourish and add control, and mango butter to deeply moisturize, the formula wraps around each strand in a protective layer. It also shields against UVA and UVB rays, helping preserve color-treated hair from fading.

    Expert feedback from Everette

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“Design Essentials Agave & Lavender Blow‑Dry & Heat Shield provides superior heat protection and softens the cuticle, helps repair split ends, and fights frizz for up to two weeks, and it’s lightweight, so it doesn’t weigh down hair. This particular product is best suited for clients who use frequent heat styling (blow‑drying, flat irons, curling irons), especially those with textured, curly, wavy, coily, or color-treated hair that needs extra protection against thermal damage.”

Why we love it: Unlike most heat protectants that fade over time, this one provides long-lasting protection. Color Wow’s Best of Beauty-winning Dream Coat Supernatural Spray defends against heat and waterproofs your style with a glossy, humidity-proof barrier. Inspired by textile technology, the formula wraps each strand in an invisible, water-resistant “raincoat” that repels moisture, keeping blowouts smooth and frizz-free even in extreme conditions. Activated by the heat of your blow-dryer, it compresses strands into a sleek, supple shape, then seals that smoothness so it stays intact through workouts, steam, and even sleep. The lightweight mist won’t leave buildup behind, making it safe for all hair types, including those with color-treated hair and those who wear extensions.

I apply it to damp hair, section by section, then blow-dry with tension to activate the heat-activated polymers. The results are consistently transformative and long-lasting, making it a must-have in my styling kit.”

This luxe heat-styling spray shields strands from temperatures up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit while actively repairing weakened cuticles, smoothing away frizz, and leaving hair touchably soft with a satin finish. “Oribe Gold Lust Dry Heat Protection Spray is my go-to whenever I’m using hot tools. It protects hair up to 450 degrees, which means I can blow-dry, curl, or straighten without worrying about damage. The best part is that it doesn’t just shield, it also adds nourishment and smoothness, so hair feels soft and silky instead of dry after styling. I especially recommend it for anyone with color-treated hair or those who love polished, sleek looks. I spray it section by section before styling, then finish with a light mist to add shine and control flyaways.”

This formula acts as a heat protectant, shine booster, detangler, frizz fighter, and split-end preventer in one bottle. It counteracts humidity, protects against UV rays, and helps maintain vibrant color while sealing the cuticle for smoother, healthier-looking strands. What makes it especially impressive is its combination of four proprietary complexes: Urban Defense Pro shields against pollution and heavy metals, Shine Fix Complex (flaxseed extract) delivers long-lasting luminosity, Color Fix Complex preserves color with antioxidants and UV filters, and a Multi-Vitamin Complex featuring vitamins E and F nourishes and revitalizes the hair.

Why we love it: Heat styling presents enough challenges, which is why perfecting your detangling routine before heat is even applied is crucial. Unite Hair’s 7Seconds Detangler makes this step a breeze. The leave-in spray loosens tangles in seconds while strengthening, repairing, and protecting strands from both UV and thermal damage, preventing unnecessary breakage before you even reach for hot tools. The formula is powered by hydrolyzed rice protein to fortify weak hair, panthenol (pro-vitamin B5) to deeply hydrate and add shine, and amodimethicone to smooth the cuticle for a silky, frizz-free finish. The spray seals split ends and locks in color.

    Frequently asked questions

Does heat protectant spray actually work?

Both Everette and Michael agree that heat protectants are effective and non-negotiable. It “works by forming a thin, protective barrier over the hair shaft, which helps to reduce direct heat exposure from styling tools like flatirons, curling wands, hot combs, or blow-dryers,” explains Everette. She adds that this barrier distributes heat more evenly to prevent “hot spots” and often contains silicones or proteins that smooth the cuticle and reduce frizz. Michael highlights the risks of skipping it, noting, “If you don’t use a heat protectant, hot tools can strip moisture, weaken the hair’s protein structure, and lead to dryness, breakage, and dullness over time.”

How do you choose a good heat protectant?

“Choosing a good heat protectant depends on your hair type, texture, and styling needs,” says Everette, who recommends lightweight sprays or mists for fine or oily hair and richer creams or serums for thicker, curly textures that need added moisture. She notes “to choose a heat protectant that matches the heat level of your styling tools and offers added benefits like frizz control or UV protection.” Most heat protectants that offer UV defense rely on antioxidants and UV-absorbing compounds like benzophenone or cinnamate derivatives to shield hair from sun-induced oxidation and color fading.

Michael emphasizes the importance of ingredients and temperature coverage, explaining that “when choosing a heat protectant, look for one that offers protection up to the temperature you typically style at (usually around 400 to 450 degrees),” and to select formulas with “nourishing ingredients like natural oils, proteins, or vitamins that not only shield your hair, but also keep it healthy and shiny.”

How do you apply heat protectant correctly?

Everette advises starting with clean, damp hair, noting, “part into four to six sections and spray or distribute the product evenly from mid-lengths to ends, avoiding the roots to prevent greasiness.” She recommends using a wide-tooth comb for even coverage and letting the product dry completely before heat styling to avoid sizzling. For touch-ups, she adds, “Use a lightweight heat protectant formulated specifically for dry application.”

Michael breaks it down by formula, explaining, “For sprays, hold the bottle 6 to 8 inches away and mist evenly on damp or dry hair, making sure to cover from mid-lengths to ends without oversaturating.” He notes that “cream or serum versions should be applied sparingly to damp hair—work a small amount between your palms, then distribute evenly with your hands or a wide-tooth comb. Focus on the ends, since they’re the oldest and most fragile part of the hair.”

For our list of best heat-protectant sprays, we considered each product’s performance across five primary categories: product ingredients and efficacy, packaging, fragrance, texture, and product wear.

After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the "best" for people over 50 if the only testers we've solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it's never been tested on curls? We're proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.
